birth control pills1 100x100 Another woman files lawsuit against makers of YazA Louisiana woman is suing Bayer Corporation claiming the company’s top-selling birth control pill Yaz caused her to develop life-threatening blood clots in her lungs. Heather Gillespie claims that the makers of the oral contraceptive, also known as Yasmin and the generic ocella, failed to warn her of the risks associated with taking the pills. She is seeking damages.

Teva Pharmaceuticals Logo 100x100 Bayer sues Teva for prematurely marketing generic YazBayer’s multimillion dollar birth control pill, Yaz, will go head-to-head with generic competition with the introduction of Teva Pharmaceutical Industries’ Gianvi. Teva was awarded a 180-day marketing exclusivity period for Gianvi by the Food and Drug Administration after being the first company to file an Abbreviated New Drug Application (ANDA). Bayer isn’t taking the news lightly. The company says it plans to sue Teva for prematurely launching the new “girl” on the block, which Bayer says they are not legally permitted to do until July 2011.

bcpills 100x100 Woman claims Yaz/Yasmin/Ocella caused her strokeFrom April 2009 until July 2009, Adrienne Cechura of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, took Ocella, the generic band of the oral contraceptive known by the brand names Yaz or Yasmin. Yaz is the top-selling birth control pill in the United States, generating more than $600 million in sales. The pill offers a different formula than typical birth control pills. It contains drospirenone, a diuretic. The combination drospirenone and ethinyl estradiol is touted as a treatment for acne and premenstrual dysphoric disorder, or PMDD, a premenstrual condition marked by severe emotional and physical symptoms.
