Bayer generates millions of pages for Yaz, Yasmin lawsuits

Lawyers for the pharmaceutical giant Bayer are overwhelmed by the “overly burdensome discovery requests” made by attorneys for the thousands of women and their family members who have filed suit against Bayer. The drug company has turned over some 40 million pages of documents related to Yaz and Yasmin’s warnings, safety, labeling and sales and market, and say they have up to 30 million more pages yet to surrender. Bayer’s attorneys have asked for a protective order to stop the mountain of paperwork, but the plaintiffs attorneys say they want all the documents as they are imperative to the lawsuit filed against the drug company.

One A Day Mens 100x100 Questionable ads from Bayer make consumers wonder what to believeYou would think German drug giant Bayer would have learned its lesson not to overstate the benefits of its drugs in marketing campaigns after shelling out $20 million in advertising last year to correct claims that its blockbuster birth control pill Yaz was a cure-all for the bothersome symptoms of premenstrual syndrome while downplaying the risks associated with the drug.

Apparently, some lessons are never learned. The company has just agreed to pay another $3.3 million to Oregon, California and Illinois over ads for its vitamin One A Day Men’s Health Formula, that claim the supplement contains an ingredient that may reduce the risk of prostate cancer.

Southern Illinois district court to handle Yaz lawsuits

The Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation in Washington D.C. has chosen the U.S. District Court in the Southern District of Illinois in East St. Louis to handle multidistrict litigation for what could be as many as 25,000 Yaz lawsuits. Chief Judge David Herndon will preside over the pre-trial proceedings, which have been filed by plaintiffs in all parts of the country against Bayer, the manufacturer of the popular oral contraceptive.

Chicago woman sues Bayer over Yaz-related injuries

A Chicago woman who claims she was injured as a result of taking Yaz filed a lawsuit on November 4 against Bayer in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. According to the lawsuit, the plaintiff started using Yaz in January 2008 and, as a direct result, developed gall stones which led to the removal of her gall bladder.
